If you guys have been following us for a while, you know that every year for Christmas we like to support a charity project that we cherish particularly.
One of the main environmental problems that we fight, using recycled plastic products, is the pollution caused by plastic waste. Every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our oceans.
I remember when I was a child with my brothers in summer, I remember the beach was clean we collected shells, the water was clear. No plastic could be found.
A couple of decades later with my child at the beach, we don’t collect shells anymore, we collect plastic (because we don’t want fishes to eat it)!
An horrible question comes to my mind: how it will be in a couple of decades? If pollution is going so fast and we keep acting like we have a planet B, the sand will actually still be visible or it will be just covered by plastic?
We, at Baby Juno Basics are trying to fight plastic pollution, we think that a brand for children needs to protect their future, even if we are just a drop in the ocean.
We do so by using biodegradable packagings made with natural ingredients and not plastic, by using natural fabrics or innovative fabrics made with recycled plastic and this year for our annual Christmas donation, by supporting a no profit that is doing an amazing job in keeping plastic waste away from our oceans in Bali: Sungai Watch.
They are fighting plastic pollution mainly in three ways:
1. they have built river barriers to physically prevent plastic to go into the oceans. They have now installed more than 100 trash barriers in Bali.
2. cleaning illegal landfills across the island.
3. sorting and recycling the plastic waste collected.
we are happy to contribute to their work by donating 100% of the profit of our surfer santa tee to them and help them install more barriers.
At the end of the day tho, it is us, the people, who must change to protect our planet and to leave a better world to our children.
Small things we can do every day:
- support no profits that are fighting the cause.
- stop buying single use plastic products, or wrapped in plastic.
- bring your own reusable bag when shopping.
- Avoid fast fashion brands and fabrics containing plastic.
- speak with the local community about the issue.
- recycle. You will be amazed of what people can do with plastic waste. ( a hint of something special that we are working on ;) )
